Whats our purpose?
Saidia Dada Network Kenya (SDNK) is a project that seeks to improve the welfare of disadvantaged & marginalised girls and teenage mothers by addressing obstacles to their ability to fully participate in their development.
To achieve these goals we have the following objectives
- To empower young girls and teenage mothers through training programmes & seminars (e.g.) the making of low cost hygienic sanitary towels, at the same time improving their personal hygiene.
- Training of girls within schools and institutions on menstrual education, thereby helping them know how to handle themselves enabling them to concentrate more on their performance and everyday life.
- Provide young women with practical and personal skills through informal education to enable them face the world couragiously and wth determination.
- To rescue, rehabilitate and possibly seek legal redress to girls and women where necessary.
This project has been successful in various ways.
- Through our mobile training we are able to reach most of the schools and marginalised areas in the country.
- Many girls no longer miss school during their menses meaning they perform much better in class.
- Girls are now aware of their menstruation calender or period cycle hence they can prepare adequately for it.
- Through the training offered by Saidia Dada on making hygenic handmade sanitary towels, the girls are now aware of dangers regarding use of old blankets or other unhygenic means.
- Through the talks, the girls are encouraged to speak more freely about the issue of menstruation and the experience and the effect is amazing as they are more open to discuss it among themselves.
